Mission:  The Client’s Council Inc. is a non-profit organization designed to benefit indigent developmentally disabled persons in Hood County.

Background:  The Client’s Council has been meeting needs of developmentally disabled individuals since 1985. The idea of creating an alternative funding source came after it was determined that Medicaid would not reimburse for items that most of us would consider necessary. These items included dentures and orthotic inserts as well as many other services. Medicaid also only pays for a certain number of dental procedures. Often, because of this, it was cheaper for the individual to have their teeth pulled rather than have to come up with the money for a partial plate or other items classified as cosmetic in nature. As most of these individuals are considered indigent and many have little or no family involvement, the executive staff of Southern Concepts, Inc. decided to act in their behalf. A non-profit organization was then developed by SCI to procure funds to meet these and other needs to enhance these individuals quality of life.

In 1999, the Client's Council, in cooperation with Southern Concepts, Inc., began a 3-day summer camp. Camp has become the most popular, and most costly, service offered by the Client’s Council.
