Hood County Children’s Charity Fund, Inc. was founded in 1984 and continues serving the children of Hood County. We work closely with Mission Granbury and the Emergency Assistance Network to provide assistance to the community in which we live.

Mission:  To provide for the immediate economic, physical and emotional needs of children in Hood County. It is our intent that no child within our community will be forced to live without prescribed medication, adequate food and clothing, and a safe and healthy home.

2008 Activities

Emergency Clothing
Our total expenditure for clothing in 2007 was over $18,000. That included back to school clothes, coats and general requirements throughout the year. Clothing is distributed through School Nurses, Mission Granbury and the Head Start Program. In 2008 we delivered over 300 coats. We have been providing coats for those in need since 1984.

Medical, Dental & Pharmaceutical
Over $14,000 was provided for general medical assistance including doctor visits, medications, dental coverage and other special requirements.

Scholarships
We provide scholarships to four deserving students. These scholarships are for $500 per semester and continue as long as a “B” average is maintained. We recently had our fourth college graduate. We also provide scholarships to attend the Boys and Girls Club during the summer for children who could not otherwise participate.

Emergency Family Needs
We provide assistance to needy families through the Emergency Assistance Network. In 2008 we spent a total of over $41,000 for food, propane, electricity, rental assistance and emergency transportation.

Interagency Cooperation
In order to do our jobs as independent agencies we must work together to insure the maximum benefit from our efforts. In 2008 we provided funding to several other agencies in a cooperative approach to pursue our joint missions. It’s all about the kids!

Funding
Historically over 50% of our funding comes from funds generated from our annual Duffer’s Delight “Unclassic” Golf Tournament. Our tournament is traditionally held on the first Monday in May at the DeCordova Bend Estates Country Club. We receive money from entrance fees, hole sponsorships, special events during the tournament and both silent and live auctions of donated items. We are also a United Way Partner Agency and receive a substantial amount of our annual funding from them.
