Congregate meals, Meals on Wheels, health seminars, card games, Bingo, line dancing, chair exercises and pool tables can all be found at the center. A typical morning involves the clanking of pool balls into pockets (these guys are good!), conversations about knee replacements (4 surgeries is the record as far as I know), Bridge games (seems too confusing for me), line dancing lessons (I hope you like Shania Twain), blood pressure clinics (I hope you’ve been getting your exercise), and live entertainment (bring
your dancing shoes!).
A hot meal is served at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Our menu varies and we are constantly working to improve both the quality and nutritional value of our meals. The meal is free for seniors 60 and older, but donation of $3.50 is suggested to help us defray costs. Meals on Wheels delivers the same menu items to approximately 150 seniors in Hood County each day. To qualify, a person must be at least 60 years of age and be unable to prepare his or her own meal.
Many of our clients come to the center each day using center-provided transportation. We have teamed up with The Transit System to bring clients for socialization and lunch. Arrangements can also be made for seniors to be taken to and from the grocery store, doctor’s appointments and hair appointments. Suggested fares vary by distance. |
