History

  • Hood County United Way was formed to help raise money for community agencies.

  • Started in 1998 by board members of Hood County Children's Charities.

  • First Campaign conducted in 1999.

  • First Allocation Committee 1999.

  • As a result of the first campaign in 1999, $70,000 stayed in Hood County rather than going to Tarrant County.

  • Almost $2,000,000 has been allocated or distributed since 1999 to community agencies.

  • United Way of Hood County's goal is to have 0% operating expense.

  • United Way of Hood County started Ruth's Place, a free health clinic for women and children.

  • Revamped allocation process in 2006.

  • Community Needs Assessment conducted in 2006 - #1 problem indicated by the community and community leaders is drug abuse.

  • Needs Assessment Committee on Drug Abuse formed in 2007.

  • In 2008 the Needs Assessment Committee on Drug Abuse made a series of 27 broad-based recommendations to be implemented.
